Too many cookies. I had to foist some onto the nice neighbor lady with the new baby. but she loved them , and the baby is cute. Actually not, but that’s justwhat you say about babies.
post-natal lady: This is my new baby, dolores! She’s only two months old!
innocent passerby: Oh! She’s soo… ugly!
I mean, what do you say to that?
I need something new to make on Fridays. Wonder if anyone will vouch for muffins…?
Oh, and about the name Dolores, it’s root, dolor, is the latin word for grief. Nice name for your little cherub.

terry came over and we whacked at trees with rakes to get apples.
and they were apple trees, too, not maples or evergreens.
and yes , they were in my yard.
eventually, we resorted to the apple picker, a ridiculously long, splintery wooden pole with a wire contraption on the end that you use to attack and catch the out-of-reach apples.
but the rake was more fun.

My Sister’s Keeper (Jodi Picoult) is wicked. It’s one of those books where the story is so deftly contrived that you are as taken aback by the ending as the characters are. It also has provoking events and interesting ethical twists. A bit sappy, with a take on what it’s like to be thirteen that may or may not be correct, but still one of the best novels I’ve read recently.
Then in English we’re reading The Street Lawyer (John Grisham), which is one of those books that you can buy off the cart- thing at the grocery store, and The Odyssey (Homer, of course.)
yay. : )

i’m sewing up a cushy- smushy sea monster toy sort thing. He (she?) doesn’t have a title yet, but possibilities are pending.
come to the dark side…we have cookies.
Actually , not quite. I sent the rest of the last batch off to James , who was unnervingly excited about them. And really, I’m not in much of a baking mood. In fact I feel quite sick.
well, here’s the recipe..
Peanut Butter Cookies
this is most likely the simplest batch of cookies I have ever made. Don’t be put off by the lack of normal ingredients (flour, leavener, etc.) ; it turns out that they are nearly indistinguishable from your run of the mill cookies. I have no idea why. It’s curious.
1 cup sugar
<>1cup peanut butter (awesomest choice being Teddy’s super chunky, which makes a better texture, but, you know, whatever works)1 egg
mixy mixy, till the batter looks like, well, batter. spoon or ball them up onto a buttered cookie sheet and mush them down with a fork. bake at 375 or 350 degrees for abou 8- 12 minutes. mmmm. give to people. or lodge razors in them and give them to trick-or-treaters. ’tis the season.
if you are so inclined: decorate with chocolate chips as “eyes” before baking. you can make odd numbers of eyes or,if the chocolate chips have drips going off to the side like some of mine did, it kind- of looks like those scary glasses that the poodle people used to wear.
mnaaaaaaa , I feel sick. and delerious. sleep.
